#JasmyneACannick (October 22, 1977 – ): Cannick is no stranger to issues of race discussed in the current news cycle. She is an “on-air and in-print” pop culture critic who has come into the fore with her work on LGBTQIA and race intersectionality. In the past she has worked on voter registration programs in L.A. County’s “roughest” neighborhoods, as well as in raising awareness on community policing and homelessness. She has been vocal about the sharp divide in exposure of white LGBT issues and black LGBT issues, a point she feels is that since there is far more exposure of LGBTQIA issues told through a white lens that the lack of representation has led to People of Color who are LGBTQIA not feeling as they are a part of “gay society.” She has served as a commentator on many news networks, and when a guest on the O’Reilly Factor said that FoxNews contains many shows that perpetuate racism in America. She has also been a vocal critic of the LAPD, exposing multiple examples of racism on the force. She is known as well for being a producer on the show #NoahsArk, a popular show about four black gay male friends living together in the early 2000s. In the past few years, she made headlines in her work with bringing the case of #EdBuck, a well-known Democratic donor accused of murdering black gay men in his home, to the attention of the media, leading to an indictment; Buck’s trial is set for July 2021. In 2020, Cannick decided to run for public office over the Democratic Party’s silence on Ed Buck and was elected to a four-year term on the Los Angeles County Democratic Party’s County Central Committee, representing the 53rd Assembly District, making her the first Black person ever to be elected to the office. #PrideMonth#LGBTQIA#LGBTQIAPride#Pride
