Kayla Gore

#KaylaGore is the Southern Regional Director for the Transgender Law Center and has fought for housing equity for the trans community that is homeless, as well as in those unjustly treated by law enforcement. Together with #IllyahnnaCWattshall, she founded #MySistahsHouse, which provides emergency housing for #transgender and #gendernoncomforming people, specifically those who are Black, Indigenous, and Trans People of Color. She works to help connect transgender people with crucially needed social services in the South. According to the Transgender Law Center, Gore “is a community mobilizer and activist for social justice equity and the abolishment of systems that were never designed to protect marginalized people.” She is a State-Certified HIV Tester and Sexual Health Counselor, as well as an activist who works to help trans and gender non-conforming people who have recently been released from incarceration. In looking forward, Gore has stated, “Even after the rest of the country puts the COVID-19 pandemic behind, transgender women will continue to struggle with another epidemic: HIV…The first step to ending the epidemic is to understand it…We need greater investment in affordable housing options and job training opportunities, increased access to mental healthcare, and to finally end the stigma facing people living with HIV, and particularly transwomen with HIV.” She was instrumental in beginning a housing project for Trans women of color, building tiny homes to combat the issue of homelessness within the community. She has been actively fighting against Tennessee’s law that prohibits Trans people from altering their birth certificate to reflect their gender identity rather than sex assigned at birth. #PrideMonth #LGBTQIA #LGBTQIAPride #Pride #LegendsOfPride #YouCannotEraseUs
