(September 18th, 1987 – ): Born in #Portland, Oregon, #JinkxMonsoon came into the national spotlight (and into my heart, personally) during Season 5 of #RuPaulsDragRace on a memorable episode portraying #LittleEdieBeale in #SnatchGame. Her natural comedic timing, penchant for referential humor (her last name is a nod to #AbFab), and phenomenal singing voice brought her to snatch the crown in her season, as well as again in #DragRaceAllStarsAllWinners (impersonating both Natasha Lyonne and Judy Garland on that season’s Snatch Game) where she was crowned #QueenOfAllQueens. With a BFA in Theatre, she has used this within her career as a drag queen, but also on the Broadway stage first in the role of Mama Morton in #Chicago and is currently starring in an Off-Broadway production of #LittleShopOfHorrors as Audrey. Recently she joined the cast of #DoctorWho as the villain “Maestro.”
Jinkx identifies as #trans-femme and uses she/her pronouns, using her platform to advocate fiercely for LGBTQIA rights amidst the wave of transphobic laws that have swept the nation over the last few years. Speaking on the subject of bathrooms during one of her specials, she stated that she went into the airport bathroom of the gender she was assigned at birth and was told by a gentleman, “I think you’re in the wrong restroom.” To this Jinkx Monsoon responds, “I’m doing what the Republicans want. I’m going to the restroom I was assigned at birth. This is what they asked me to do. This is what they passed laws about. And then I’m doing it and they’re like, ‘you can’t be in here!’ Where do I piss?!”
And she’s right.
