Amanda Lepore

#AmandaLepore (November 21, 1967 – ): Born in New Jersey to Italian- and German-American parents, Lepore has stated in interviews that she always felt that she was a girl (before there even was the word “#transgender”). Early in her life she was able to begin hormone therapy both through friends and obtaining a prescription by a sympathetic psychologist. At the age of 19, she was able to receive permission for #GenderAffirmationSurgery and soon after relocated to #NewYorkCity. It was there that she became a mainstay in NYC nightlife, especially as a member in the #ClubKids and a collaborator with #DavidLaChapelle. Since then, she has been featured in fashion magazines, music videos, and movies. She even released her own music and toured with the #TrueColorsTour2007 to raise money for the #HumanRightsCampaign, #PFLAG, and the #MatthewShepardFoundation. Speaking to her experience as a transgender person, she has said, “When I was in the hospital getting my sex change, I was just wishing I could be a pretty girl working in a mall.
